Books for Halloween

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

Dead until Dark, Charlaine Harris: first of a series of vampire novels. In this episode, Bill (the vampire) and Sookie (his new girl friend) set out to prove Bill did not murder two vampire groupies.

Storm Front, Jim Butcher: Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, ekes out a meager living as a private investigator of the paranormal. In this novel he is harassed by nasty female vampire.

Blood Rites, Jim Butcher: Harry is hired to rid a film production set of a curse targeting the women in the producer’s life. Harry’s sense of humor enlivens his efforts to break the curse.

Fat White Vampire Blues, Andrew Fox: Jules Duchon, New Orleans resident vampire, and lover of Cajon food and blues, is enjoying life until Malice X decides he wants to be New Orleans’ top vampire. A crazy cast of characters helps Jules overcome his opponent.

Vamped, David Sosnowski: More humorous escapades of vampires—Marty—the vampire—discovers he still has a soul when a human child Isuzu enters his life. Three Men and a Baby vampire style.

The Historian, Elizabeth Kostova: This one is scary—the author combines the story of Vlad Dracul with the myth of Dracula.

Dracula, Bram Stoker: the first of the genre and still the best for horror. Buy some garlic and a cross to wear before you read this one.
