In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to implement virtual office hours or tutoring support using free, online services. You will learn about two methods: Instant Messaging (IM) and embedded chat applications.

- What is IM?
- IM services and protocols (AIM, ICQ, Jabber, Yahoo!, MSN)
- IM clients (those provided by services vs. multi-protocol clients such as gaim)
- The difference between IM and embedded chat
- How to embed a chat application in a web page
