Using POP with Zane State E-mail
This document will help with the configuration needed to connect an e-mail client to the Zane State College e-mail system using POP as the communication method. This tutorial is written using Microsoft Outlook Express; however, all e-mail clients use similar settings.
It is recommended that you read how to use your third party POP client before connecting to the Zane State student e-mail server.
- Start Outlook Express as your e-mail client, start the "Internet Connection" wizard. The wizard may start automatically (if so skip to step 2), if not click "Tools" from the menu bar, then "Accounts". In the "Internet Accounts" window click the "Mail" tab. Click the "Add" button, a submenu will open, then click "Mail". The internet connection wizard will start.
- In the "Your Name" window, type your name in the "Display name" text box. Click the "Next" button.
- In the "Internet E-mail Address" window, type your Zane State e-mail address (your_username@zanestate.edu) in the "E-mail address" text box. Click the "Next" button.
- In the "E-mail Server Names" window, make sure your "incoming mail server" drop down box reads POP3 server. Click the drop down box if needed to select POP3 or port 110. In the same window locate the "Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server" text box and type mail.zanestate.edu. In the same window locate the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" text box and type mail.zanestate.edu. Click the "Next" button.
- In the "Internet Mail Logon" window, your account name should be added automatically. In the same window locate the "Password" text box and type your Zane State College e-mail password if you would like Outlook to remember your password. If you would not like Outlook to remember your password, un-check the "Remember password" check box. Leave the "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" un-checked. Click the "Next" button.
- At the "Congratulations" window, click the "Finish" button.
Your Outlook software is now ready to receive e-mail.
