[edit] What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a course management system that allows instructors and students to interact via the World Wide Web.
[edit] What are the hardware requirements for Blackboard?
You need a modem (at least 56K recommended) and an Internet connection. Blackboard recommends that you use a monitor capable of at least 800x600 resolution.
[edit] What are the software requirements for Blackboard?
You need a relatively recent Web browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 6. Instructors may publish or link to content that requires a browser plug-in or additional software.
[edit] How do I access Blackboard?
You can access Zane State College's Blackboard server at http://blackboard.zanestate.edu (hint: bookmark that page--Add to Favorites). There is also a link to Blackboard from the Zane State College site in the Quick Link drop-down box on the left.

For questions about course assignments you should contact your instructor. If you have a technical problem or question, contact the ITS helpdesk.

[edit] What is my username?
Your username is the first letter of your first name, the first four letters of your last name, and the last three digits of your Zane State College ID number. (Your Zane State College ID is a five digit number and can be found on your ID card or on your bill. Note: Some Zane State ID cards may contain an initial zero (0) in the ID number; in this case, the ID number contains six digits. The initial zero is not needed.)

For students enrolled winter quarter 2005 and earlier
Your password is the same as your username.
For new students enrolled spring quarter 2005 or later
Your password is your Zane State College ID number. You can find your ID number on your Zane State College ID card. Note: some Zane State ID's have six digits including an initial zero; drop the initial zero to make it a five digit number.

Click the "Forgot password?" link on the login page; an email will be sent to your Zane State email address with further instructions.

[edit] Why can't I log in to Blackboard?
The AOL browser does not function with Blackboard. To access Blackboard using an AOL connection:
- connect to the Internet as usual using AOL
- once connected, minimize the AOL browser
- launch another browser, such as Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer
- log in to Blackboard
[edit] Enrollment Issues
[edit] I am registered for classes at Zane State College but I do not see see any of my courses in Blackboard. What do I do?
Not all Zane State courses have a Blackboard component; however, if you know you are taking a course that uses Blackboard, you may need to request that your instructor enroll you in the course on Blackboard. This does not mean that you are not registered for the course, but rather that you have not been placed in the course in Blackboard yet.
[edit] How do I request enrollment in a Blackboard course?
To request that your instructor enroll you in a Blackboard section, click the Courses tab and browse for your course. When you locate the course, click the "Enroll" button on the far-right side of the screen. After you click the enroll button again, your instructor will get an email, which he or she will have to approve before you are enrolled in the course.
