DIY Podcasting in WordPress

I attempted to set up a podcast using the Podpress plugin for WordPress; unfortunately, it mangled my feed and in general just seemed to be overkill for what I wanted. Now I’m using the Audio Player WordPress plugin, which works like a charm. It allows me to embed a flash player and generates the enclosure tag automatically. Here’s the basic rundown of the process.

Upload an mp3 using the standard WordPress upload feature
Send the file (link to file) to the editor
Erase everything but the URL of the MP3 from the editor, and add the code required by the audio player plugin: [audio:URL]
Save the post with a category reserved for podcasts (optional)
Publicize your podcast feed URL: http://www.yourWordPressBlog.com/categories/podcastCategory/feed/
Set up a FeedBurner feed for your podcast (optional)
Make your podcast feed auto-discoverable by adding its URL to the WordPress header (optional), e.g.
