How much to call Hermosillo, Mexico?
I’m cleaning out my Documents folder and found this screencast of a live chat session with what I believe was EarthLink, which has a cable internet and digital phone package similar to Time Warner. Here I simply try to find out the rate for telephone calls to Hermosillo, Mexico. The total screencast is five minutes; you’re advised to use the slider to skip the lengthy delays when the agent is “thinking” or typing. Note that this conversation had already been going on for a while before I started to capture it.

I never found out, and they lost a potential customer! To be fair, most of the other companies are the same; they provide a list of about 10 cities in Mexico and if your relatives don’t happen to live in one of those, good luck finding out the rate. We got burned once with MCI, whose agent misquoted us a rate. Now we’re careful to pin them down and get it in writing.
