26 February 2008

I would love to explore Jing some more but I’m having difficulty getting the size of the video small enough to view in my web browser (Firefox). The quality is great, but I have to scroll up and down and side to side to see the entire movie. When I made the capture, I used the entire screen. I tried changing the screen resolution too, but got the same effect. I was trying to show a client how to do something and wanted to email him the link to the movie file, but if I can’t figure out how to view it properly, he won’t either.

Also, I would love to be able to take the Jing screencast I made and import it into iMovie to edit it. Maybe add some text effects or clean up the sound from the recording. My fans run and you can hear it. (I’m on a MacBook Pro) I would like to be able to crop it and make changes, maybe correct it by removing flubs, that sort of thing.

I could really have some fun and more use for this in my teaching of adult students but I need to figure out how to get the movie size smaller so they too won’t have to scroll.

Thanks for this product though. It’s off to a great start!

Some strategies I’ve tried for the screen size issue are to change the resolution to 800×600, if possible. I also try to make all my window as small as possible and if I do switching among windows, I set them up ahead of time to be in the capture area I’ve defined. If you need to show the entire desktop, there’s not much you can do.

I hope you completed the survey linked above!

Is there a way to make videos longer than 5 minutes? It seems to be a restriction in the program. I completely agree with the HUGE file size gripes I’ve read.
