Linux download of the week: Revelation password manager
Revelation is a password manager, or if you prefer, wallet. It stores your passwords, allowing you to choose the type (e.g. credit card, shell, web, email, etc.), and to organize them in folders. It will generate unambiguous passwords for you–to avoid problems caused by O/0 and I/1 etc.–and give some indication as to whether a password you choose is strong. A nice feature is to quickly show passwords in plain text or hide them with the standard password masking you see in password entry forms; this is easily toggled with control+p.
Of course you have to password protect the file you store your passwords in, so I guess you’re out of luck if you forget that one
.
Revelation will import passwords from and export them to various formats.

PassPack is a free online password manager. We’ve done our very best to make it cross-browser, cross-platform. We’ve tested on Ubuntu, but I’d love to get some more feedback from the linux community.
I know what you’re thinking, PASSWORDS?! ONLINE?!. Yes, passwords online. All encryption (AES) is done client-side with a key that never leaves the browser. So what is sent to, and stored on, the server can’t be read - not even by PassPack itself. There’s a brief security overview here: https://www.passpack.com/info/security
I’m sure you have a lot of questions, many of which have may have already been answered on the blog, but feel free to contact me directly (tara[at]passpack.com).
