Serving audio (thinking out loud)

06 July 2006

After playing around with mt-daapd–something like an iTunes server–it seems to me that a DAAP + web-based distribution model is much more interesting than podcasting. Here’s what I’d do:

  1. set up a server with mt-daapd, zina (for access via the web), and ftp
  2. set up accounts for faculty
    • the DAAP share is the same as the FTP directory, which is the same web directory used by zina
    • sooo, faculty upload audio and it gets scanned by mt-daapd, making it available on campus via iTunes, and off-campus via a web interface
  3. tell students to fire up iTunes and check out the content

I suppose what I need to do is investigate iTunes U to see if we can get that functionality for free.
