Serving audio (thinking out loud)
After playing around with mt-daapd–something like an iTunes server–it seems to me that a DAAP + web-based distribution model is much more interesting than podcasting. Here’s what I’d do:
- set up a server with mt-daapd, zina (for access via the web), and ftp
- set up accounts for faculty
- the DAAP share is the same as the FTP directory, which is the same web directory used by zina
- sooo, faculty upload audio and it gets scanned by mt-daapd, making it available on campus via iTunes, and off-campus via a web interface
- tell students to fire up iTunes and check out the content
I suppose what I need to do is investigate iTunes U to see if we can get that functionality for free.
