Cataloging those unlabeled CD’s
Now that I’ve about got my digital photo collection squared away, it’s time to turn to that stack of CD’s with things like “2-05-iii” scrawled in sharpie on them. I confess, I have backed up but failed to label or catalog my backups! Gnome catalog to the rescue.
In a nutshell, GC catalogs the contents of CD’s. The nice thing is that it reads metadata, too, so you can easily find media files (id3 tags for ogg/mp3/flac, EXIF and thumbnails for images).
Now I’ll put meaningful labels on the CD’s and I won’t have to go hunting through all of them to find what I’m looking for. From now on I’ll just search in Gnome Catalog and it will tell me what CD I need.
