The librarian gets it!

14 October 2005

This is kind of strange, but our campus library director asked me to set up a blog for her and her staff so that they could dump the RSS feed into the library’s home page. I set up a WordPress blog and now they can go and post announcements to the home page via the blog. The primary advantage here is that they don’t need to know how to be web publishers, though perhaps some sort of content management feature at the site itself would be a more direct way of handling the need.

In any event, we use feed2js (hosted locally) to put the announcements category and the database alerts category on the front page; if people want to read more, they can click the headline and go directly to the blog to read the rest.

You may also want to check out Feedo Style (http://www.feedostyle.com). I don’t know if it’s the best solution for your scenario, but I love it because of the added features (compared to Feed2JS), plus the developers at Feedo Style are working on an AJAX enabled version for faster and asynchronous loading.
