Social meta-searching

05 July 2005

I was lamenting the fact that I couldn’t search various social bookmarking/tagging sites like del.icio.us, furl, flickr etc. from one convenient location. I thought about putting together a simple page that would search for a tag on those services and return the results in frames. Luckily I was smart enough to hit google first; a search for “social bookmark meta search” revealed an even better solution–Gataga.

Features

  • searches the following services: del.icio.us, flickr, technorati, blogmarks, blinklist, jots, spurl, furl, simpy and connotea
  • search by text or by tag
  • option to search bookmarks, blogs, or photos
  • generates rss feed of search results
  • clones google interface–uncluttered, no-nonsense

Overall this is a great addition to your toolbox. I’ll be working up a Firefox search plugin when I have the chance.
