The hidden beauty of Google Desktop
I discovered that Google Desktop search not only indexes the files on your local computer but also files on any mounted network drive. This is tremendous news for us here at Zane State because we have a drive like no other, the dreaded “common” drive. This is the drive we use when we want to share documents, but it’s like a wild west town with a drunkard sherrif: no rights or permissions, anybody can pretty much do anything they want. When somebody puts something there they tend to say, “It’s on the common drive,” but they don’t tell you where.
So, GDS to the rescue. Looking for that teacher observation form? How about that annual evaluation form? Just type the keywords in GDS and you’ll have it. Another nice thing is that it includes an “Open folder” link in the results.
One caveat: I discovered that not all file names and titles are the same. Are you looking for “teacher observation” or “classroom observation”?
Let’s get this on every employee’s desktop.
