I’m down with bookmarks and tags

26 April 2005

I’ve long been a fan of bookmark4u, but the lead developer is putting the project on the back burner as he’s accomplished what he set out to do. There are a couple of issues I have with it, namely that there is no support for easy sharing (such as via RSS), and I’ve finally got fed up with folders for organizing bookmarks.

After experimenting with some of the social bookmarking systems (free and non-free), I settled on Scuttle. I like Scuttle because it’s small, quick, and easy. Also, I was glad to see that tags can contain spaces. The biggest task now is to tag my 500-odd bookmarks. This is harder than one might think because there are many options for tagging bookmarks; for example, should I use “online learning” or “online” and “learning”?

I don’t see an option for selecting multiple tags, such as “education” and “journal.”

Go ahead and give it a try. (I’m going to try to set up a subdomain so the url will eventually be mybookmarks.zanestate.edu.)
